Oftentimes, it can feel like our neighborhoods in District 4 are overlooked. We watch as other neighborhoods across the city receive improvements to their streets, parks, and public spaces.

As your City Councilor, I will work to make sure we receive our fair share of city resources and improvements. We work and pay our taxes just like other neighborhoods and deserve investment in our neighborhoods too.

I will work to accomplish this first by being an accessible and strong voice for our neighborhoods on City Council. It’s tough for many of our working class families to attend Council meetings, so I will work to find creative ways to ensure our voices are heard.

I will also work to increase District 4’s representation on our city boards and commissions. Presently, our neighborhoods make up less than 5% of the members of our city’s boards. These appointments are critical as they often advise the decision making for how city resources are allocated.

District 4 deserves a champion who will make sure our tax dollars stay in our neighborhoods improving our quality of life. As your City Councilor, that will be my mission from day 1.

When people think of public safety we immediately think of our police and firefighters. However, public safety is also about building community, improving our streets and sidewalks, creating more crosswalks, providing more street lights, and keeping our neighborhoods clean.

As your City Councilor I will partner with our City’s public works department to ensure our streets and sidewalks are in good condition and that we have ample crosswalks and pedestrian lights across our district’s many busy intersections. I’ll also partner with our neighborhoods to understand where we need more lighting to keep our neighborhoods safer at night.

And, I will serve as a connector between our police and firefighters to make sure we have positive relationships with our first responders and those we count on to keep our families safe.

Raise your hand if you love potholes. Colorado Springs faces unique challenges when it comes to the conditions of our streets, roads, and sidewalks. Our frequent freeze/thaw cycles cause significant damage to our streets and it often feels like nothing is being done to improve the conditions of our roads.

With all that said, our neighborhoods still deserve our fair share of the pie when it comes to street and sidewalk improvements. Our neighborhoods rely on multimodal transportation more than other neighborhoods across the city. Safe and well-maintained streets and sidewalks are just a novelty, they are a public safety need for our families.

Additionally, I will make sure we are expanding our tree canopy and greenery for our neighborhoods. The difference in tree canopy between Lake Avenue to where it transitions into Circle is significant. For our families, this means we experience temperatures that are oftentimes 5-7 degrees hotter in the summer months. This leads to higher utility bills and more heat related health issues during our hottest months.

We deserve beautiful and safe neighborhoods. As your City Councilor, I will fight to ensure our roads, parks, and greenspaces are in top shape.

It’s no secret that Colorado Springs is growing. District 4 is the most culturally diverse part of Colorado Springs and we need to keep it that way. The growth and housing needs of our city should not displace or come at the expense of our families. This means ensuring the housing that is built in or near our District 4 neighborhoods meets the needs of our residents.

We deserve vibrant neighborhoods with housing across the spectrum from affordable multifamily housing, to single family homes that support growing families, and higher end homes.

I’ll fight to make sure that the benefits of our city’s growth extend to our families and doesn’t jeopardize our families ability to call Colorado Springs home.

Our neighborhoods deserve well maintained parks and trails. Panorama Park was a great first step, but our district is home of many pocket parks and trails that deserve love too. As your City Councilor I will work to make sure our pocket parks are developed and well maintained, that our trails are interconnected and clean, and that our parks are safe for our kids and families.
